| Let's keep it short. I have a dud email given to me by someone who paid for a badge to be taken home and mailed out.
The character was named Kevin a black fox, and he left me a reference sheet on Sunday afternoon.
If you are this nice fellow, or might know him, drop me a line at Skulldog@gmail.com, I want to make sure you get your badge. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Ok, I'm going to AC09 next year, but I have a few questions first:
I'm planning to arrive earlier on Weds. and then leave on Mon. I'm also thinking of reserving a room from Weds. to Mon. I don't own or use a credit card, but instead use a debit card. Will the hotel accept debit card payments when reserving a room? Any Pros or Cons to using a debit card?
Does anyone remember what the different rooms/rates were? I'd hopefully like to get on the Fursuit Floor and am only looking for a room for myself and "maybe" one or two other people. I have $400-500 saved now, but how much more will I need to save for a Weds. to Mon. stay?
Hotel reservations will probably start in the Fall around October, correct? Or will it be earlier or later? And how soon can I send in my registration for Sponsor or Supersponsor? | comments: 10 comments or Leave a comment |

| I have never had a song elude me so much. I have looked everywhere for it, I had an easier time getting an unreleased album easier then this shit.
I'm looking for one song. If anyone out there can email it to me at rileyw@gmail.com, that would be simply amazing. If you have to pay for it, let me know over instant message and I'll pay you for it before you send it to me.
The song is:
Restless Heart - El Dorado
The album it was on was Big Dreams In a Small Town

Does anybody have photographs or videos featuring Seel or me, taken during Anthrocon? ^^ I am looking for them because I want to compose a nice album about the experience...
Do you think you can help me? :3

|
| All right folks, I've got a bit of a bone to pick here. I am pretty sure I am not the only one that this has happened too, and it is somewhat upsetting. Only somewhat mind you, so don't line up on the platform for the drama train, I just think something needs to be said.
I am a photographer. I don't feel I have the right to call myself professional yet, I still am not doing it in exchange for money, but more importantly I lack a lot of practical experience in the field. Nonetheless, I put a lot of work into my photography. I only put up the best shots, and I adjust each one in post processing to make them better. It is a heaping pile of work both during and after an event, or photoshoot of any kind.
So, it really tweaks my switch when I see someone who has taken my photographs and used them, and not even given me any credit at all. Come on people, you know where you got the pictures from. It's not that hard to just put a little blerb in parenthesis that says who the picture is by. If you don't know who it was taken by at least say that, perhaps someone will come forward and say that is my photo, and then you will know.
Everyone seems to think that photography is such an easy thing to do. Perhaps in some respects it is. But I assure you some of us out here really put a lot of work into it to get the most out of it. Photography is an art as much as writing, poetry, drawing, any of those things.
I am not saying that I don't want people to use my pictures, hell I don't even have the right to do that. If it's a photograph of you, or your costume then you have ever right to use it, but please be so kind as to give credit where it is due. You wouldn't have that shot if someone wasn't handy with their camera to take it.
From this point on, I will be watermarking my photos, since it seems to be the only way to garner any sort of respect for my work.
That is all,
- Ace. | comments: 15 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Subject: | Dorsai Superstitions | | Time: | 05:07 pm |
|
| Since we had a dual superstitious event this year, it seems appropriate to explain them to the attendees.
The first is a general DI superstition: When On Duty, Thou Shalt Not Offend the Pastry Gods.
What offends to Pastry Gods is to refer to some bit of duty as being simple or easy, expressed in terms of a pastry one might serve at a birthday party. To be more specific, in terms of a cut sub-section of said pastry. Sunday night at Anthrocon, someone lost their head and used the term. The fecal matter hit the rotary object, and as our saying has it, we're the first blade when that happens.
But before the arrival of said matter, the Anthrocon-specific rule was violated: Thou Shalt Not Play Cards at Anthrocon. This goes back to the last year we were in Philadelphia. One afternoon things seemed to be going on fairly quietly, so I pulled out a set of our cards and we began playing Hoof and Mouth in con-ops. We didn't get through the first hand before there was an emergency. An hour or so later, things had calmed down and we attempted to resume the game. Bang! Another emergency.
It's gotten to the point where we don't even bring cards to Anthrocon. But this year, the kindness of Gir weakened our resolve. He dropped off a few decks as a thank-you for stuff at FCN this year:

Sure enough, silly Eric Long opened one deck and began playing. That's when we were hit with a double-deck set of drunks and 911 calls. Once it was all over, we marked the deck as seen above, and it only came out of storage today.
So if you're even in con-ops and inadvertently violate one of these two, don't be surprised to be drowned in red shirts.
Your for calm future events,
Sgt. Steve | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

| | Okay like many of you I took that survey that was in my con bag and handed it in. I was wondering what ever happened with the raffle they were having at the end of it. Was it held Sunday night? Sardonic and myself had to leave right after the charity performance on Sunday with 2 and uncle kage. Also what was up with the photocopying of our hands? | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |

| I happen to find this on youtube that tastyeagle posted. It was from the masquerade I was in at AC last weekend. ^^; I was with ikariyalter and furball2k doing a furry version of Limp Bizkit's "My Generation" called 'Anthrocon and the furry fandom'. I would have done more on stage but sweat was blocking my vision and I didn't trust myself 100% about doing some turns because I would have crashed into Ikari or fallen off the stage. That would be very painful indeed. >_<; Well, here is the vid:

| Now that I'm feeling better, the cold I caught at AC is finally starting to break up after taking lots of Amoxicillin.. So here's a quick rundown of what I liked and didn't like about AC.
Likes * If you ever wanted to meet someone who's popular in the fandom chances are you'll meet them at AC. It's always cool to meet other furs from around the world. * A very friendly welcoming atmosphere. * Great "Guest of O.K." - Floyd Norman is a class act. * I heard lots of bad things about the Dorsai from past years, but most of the ones I had quick chats at the con were friendly. I saw one DI bark orders at a group of furries who were busy chatting in line to get in the elevator, but it was late Saturday evening and were really tired by then. They had a hell of a job to do. * A HUGE dealers room, artist alley and art gallery. The most impressive thing about AC. * Quick registration for Sponsors.. but one big hangup (see below) * The city of Pittsburgh was a big surprise. I remember hearing it was a "dirty, ugly town" in the mid 70's-early 80's, probably by some Cowboys fans. But I walked a few downtown blocks during the con and found it extremely fascinating architecturally for someone who's grown up in small towns most of my life (the biggest town I've ever lived in was in Wichita KS in 1986-8). Most of the locals were very curious about furries. * Lots of events and things to check out. * Most of the DJ's at the dances were very entertaining. Thanks to keeping them to 1-2 hour sets they even made hardcore trance listenable to my Top 40 trained ears. (I worked in radio for 17 years btw) * A fairly drama-free con. If bad things happened they were quickly taken care of.
Dislikes * Too many events I wanted to go to started at the same time or overlapped. * Most of the nearby restaurants in walking distance shut down early Sunday night before the closing ceremonies were finished. * Most events had the same "quality" of preparation and levels of performance that most of the smaller cons I've attended had. Lots of PA problems during the masquerade. With the size and reputation that AC has, I guess I was expecting something bigger and more professional than I would see at Megaplex, FWA and MFM. Still the large enthusiastic ballroom crowd helped inspire 2 and Kage to some of the best performances I've ever seen them do. And there were plenty of memorable moments in other events. * Slow checkout at the Dealers den. * The Ballroom was too dark for the dances. On thursday night I saw one woman trip and fall, and she had to be carried out of the ballroom by the DI or Staff. The lazers were sweet, I wish more cons had them. * I registered as a $100 sponsor but when I got there I wanted to upgrade to a $170 supersponsor. But you had to get in line with the regular attendees, which ran all over the 3rd floor on thursday. I bet AC lost some $$$ from that. * The Convention center and Hotel is a pain to get around in, even worse if you're out of shape. Plenty of room for everything but it's all spread out. There's not much you can do about that. Moving the Dealers Room over to Hall B is really going to help. * Slow elevators, and escalators that quit now and then. * A sometimes impolite hotel and security police staff.
Otherwise I had an awesome time! WBTX

| | Subject: | Anthrocon 2008 Charity Auction Followup | | Time: | 01:37 pm |
|
| Hi, and welcome to the 2008 edition of the Anthrocon Charity Auction Followup! :)
First, the bad news: The Charity Auction had the lowest return this year since 1999, we're sorry. There were issues, we know - some we could've fixed, others out of our hands. We are working to change for 2009. We have plans - BIG plans - that should turn things around on many levels. Stay tuned!
And now the good news: We raised a total of $3,982 for Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue, our charity this year! They also benefited from donations at their Dealers' Room table to the tune of $1,102! Kage & 2's charity benefit performance raised $3,040! Dr. Gerbasi's survey team donated $130! Anthrocon provided a matching (sorta) donation of $5,000!
All told, the convention total contributed to Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue was $13,254. This is the LARGEST convention-wide contribution total that Anthrocon has EVER recorded! It is the largest donation that Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue has ever received from a single event!
If you contributed to helping PPR this year, either by donating or buying from the auction, donating at their table, buying a ticket to the comedy show, or even just taking the Furry Survey, you have the thanks of Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue and Anthrocon for making this the biggest year ever. (If you are a dealer who contributed a portion of your sales to PPR - not via the bucket at their table - let us know and we can adjust our figures upwards even higher!) I'd like to give sincere thanks to my staff members who assisted me throughout the days the Charity items were displayed and during the Auction itself. These indispensable people who I rely on year after year to support the event are Jason "creature" Murdock, Mike "Mrianti" Pierce, Steven "Tora" Sears, Shaun "Stahi" Daugherty, and Matt "Danruk" Adey. Extra special thanks to the Dorsai who auctioneered the full stretch: John "Bear" Hall, Dave Stein, and Dr. Robert Passovoy. Also, a big note of gratitude to Jennifer Miller for the wonderful art that graced the promo beanie parrots that each donor received.
Finally, in no particular order (my cards got mixed up), here's a tally of all the items (97 lots) sold during the Auction by Donor, Item (brief description), and Sale Price:
( LJ Cut for space-saving... )
Charity Auction Total: $3,982
Dealers' Table donations: $1,102
Comedy ticket sales: $3,040
Survey donations: $130
Anthrocon matching (sorta) contribution: $5,000 Convention Total: $13,254
Thanks again for a great year and see you all in 2009!

| Slowly but surely sifting through all the pix of AC '08 & trying to get them up as quickly as I can, but it's a trying process & 1,900 pix is a lot to go through. I've got about 3 days worth up, will get the rest up soon. There'll be a separate folder for the Fur Suit Parade, so be patient...considering it's about 850-900pix I have to run through just for that one alone.

| | Subject: | Holiday in Paradise… with Fireworks | | Time: | 11:20 pm |
|
| I’m writing this because I’m too tired to go to sleep.
Yesterday we took the boat out on Bass Lake to watch the fireworks.
Just rounding the point at sunset:

Long exposures and a rocking boat made for some interesting pictures: ( Neon Sculptures )
The row back in the dark was wonderful. I must have some smuggler or pirate blood in me* ‘cause I really love to slide over the water in the night.
Today was more feasting and such… and a trip into town to see Hancock. Great film!
Now that I’m working an adult-type job, Carol and I have been able to afford new computers… oh the speed and shininess! Mine’s a tablet, so there has been much Photoshop and Painter playing. As much as people bad-mouth Vista, I have to say that this is the first new OS I’ve encountered that hasn’t made me pull my hair out in frustration.
Some of my old software isn’t compatible with either Vista or the Tablet PC version, which is a bit of sad-making but what the hell.
I’ve really got to get to sleep or it’ll be hell getting up in the morning to catch Tim’s show.
Maybe some more wine will help?
Hope y’all out there in LJ Land are having just as wonderful a holiday!

| I had the best 4th of July I've had in so many years. Great company, great food, great fireworks. The last bunch of years I've had to work through the holiday - but since I'm now working for myself, no more! For the last week and some, we've been watching two pups for friends who came through on the way to AC, which put our dog total to four. It was quite a handful but also fun - it made me feel like Cesar Milan. After the convention, blackteagan and kenket had some time off and have been staying with us, which has been incredibly fun. I tried out a bunch of the recipes I've been trying to perfect - with great results. :) We tried to go canoing but as soon as we got to the river a semi full of ethanol dumped into it, so we had to hang out at the pub and find other things to do. The weather's been wonderful, so we could grill and have a campfire in the back yard. For the fourth itself, we all hiked up to visit brerandalopex in the Twin Cities and they treated us to an awesome feast. With our dogs and their four huskies, we had our own little dog park and what some child deemed 'dog show!' when we went off to see lights in the sky. The Sofawolf guys are great hosts and I learned I like hard malt pineapple-orange creamers. Which I got all to myself since others didn't seem to realize just how awesome they were. ;) blackteagan posted some nice photos from the week in his journal, go take a look! Today we had amazing indian food for lunch and I made cream of asparagus soup and fresh baked bread for dinner. Then we wrapped mbala completely in duct tape - since I'm going to be working on a costume for him for MFF this year. With three people wrapping it went really fast. I've really been wanting to work on a full bodysuit lately so I'm excited. Plus, what better things are there to do on a Saturday night than have a duct tape party? ;) Tomorrow I'm going to make one last epic dinner before Ket and Teagan have to take off - Moroccan lamb, mmm. Monday I'll get back to work, double-speed, but for now - back to the blueberry beer! | comments: 10 comments or Leave a comment |
